Barring Hon, Theodore Roosevelt of New York, we do not believe that there is a more self-satisfied gentlemen in the United States than may be found in the person of Hon. William Jenning Bryan of Nebraska.
His friends have repeated by asseted that he made the best run possible, under the circumstances, at the time he was the Democratic nominee for the presidency.
The result of last Tuesday’s election has more than justified this conclusion. Even in judge Alton B. Parker’s own state of New York, Mr. Bryan made just as good, if not better, run than the present defeated Democratic nominee.
As a result, the leader of the free silver forces is in a position to again secure control of the Democratic Party machinery and thereby to inaugurate another flight within the party itself, which may make possible his renomination for the third time as the Democratic candidate for the chief office in this nation.
Judge Parker handicapped himself seriously, when he sent that telegram to Mr. bryan, thanking him for his services, thereby admitting that the support given was not half hearted, but that the Nebraskan had earnestly supported the man nominated against his protest and better judgment.
