Not Represented

November 4, 1899

Summary

Mitchell writes of the "one disappointing feature" of a fair, where no shops operated by black men are present.

Transcription

There was only one disappointing feature: no where did their appear an exhibit from a colored-shop owned controlled and operated by colored men. It was an object lesson which every thoughtful citizen of color will do well to consider. The tournament took place at the Exposition Grounds Wednesday afternoon and the display of fireworks at the Lee Monument on Thursday Night.
The public schools were closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
