Transcription
Noah Finley (colored) was charged with robbing a white man on the public highway. He was sentenced to death. The following is the telegraphic report:
East Radford, Va., August 8—Noah Finley received his sentence with peculiar composure. The jury considered their verdict from Monday evening until 11 o’clock this morning.
The first poll stood eleven for hanging, one for eighteen years and the verdict approved by every one.
Pulaski, Va., August 8—It was reported the jury could not reach an agreement. A party of citizens notified them if a verdict was not rendered by 10 o’clock this morning, the Negro would be lynched. The verdict was brought in promptly at the specified time.
