Some of the Southern journals are very Indiscreet and their other utterances. a striking example of this is shown in the following extract taken from the Hampton, VA, Weekly News of the 14th inst. It says:
The following article, which appeared in the southern states magazine, gives reason for congratulation throughout the South and is a most remarkable showing for these times of financial depression. The day is rapidly approaching when the South will be the richest and most prosperous selection of our country, and while the Farms of New England are being abandoned and manufactories clothes for lack of business we see new Enterprises opening up in all Southern States. This has been done in spite of Northern Prejudice and hostility, and in the face of obstacles that would have daunted a last determined people.
The eyes of the world are beginning to look with favor on our Southland and the era of prosperity now opening is one that will bring prosperity and wealth throughout the entire self.
There is an entire absence of love of country in the above, and a striking example of a love of selection. It emphasizes what has been said by Northern orders that the Democratic tariff bill was drawn with a view to entering Northern Industries and fostering Southern ones.
The gloating over the destruction of New England manufactories is most unfortunate all classes can't afford to walk them the industrial emancipation of the section; but if it is to be done at the expense of others, we should be slow to to giving to our feelings in the matter. Building one's self up by pulling someone else down is a mischievous a policy amount section as it is in the case of individuals.
